This Community Elements Program centred largely on the environment and the difference that Aberdeen City Council Environment Team, Community groups, volunteers and members of the public do to reduce the public and environmental cost of cleaning up litter.
Over the past 4 years, Clean up Aberdeen have now run a series of ‘Glitter Picks’ to put the sparkle into litter picking.
During the program, Rob from Gospel4Grampian spoke to Environment Manager Steven Shaw.
Steven Shaw was inspired to see so many people out and about picking up litter and getting involved with making a difference.
‘It’s been a fab morning so far.’ ‘We’re celebrating this positivity. It’s something all the kids want to get involved with and celebrate.’
The whole concept of Glitter Picks evolved because of the need to make litter picking something everyone can do and fun. It’s been building over 4 years. Some people now work as groups to litter pick every week.
Steven had this message for folk.’ Id like to think that we’ll have to do less of this in the future because everyone takes a wee bit of responsibility.”
